Alexander often hides himself behind closed doors, hunched over his desk. He rests his head on his hand as he concentrates on the latest "book" or "certificate" that he's making. Sometimes, he likes to surprise us and make me "Good Mummy" awards, or "I love you" cards.
So the other day, when he came out and kissed my arm, I smiled. When he took my hand and motioned me to bend so he could whisper, I knew it was coming. I'm so lucky to have such a lovely boy. His warm breath tickled my ear as he said with barely contained excitement "I have something to show you", and my heart swelled.
He took my hand, his tiny fingers linking with my own, his eyes shining as he looked into mine with that beautiful smile. He slowly walked me to his room, and said, drawing out the moment "Close your eyes, Mummy". I obliged, and he gently led me in, (forgetting to tell me to watch out for the door frame, but I digress..). He guided me over to his desk, where I knew something sweet and poignant would await me.
"Now.....OPEN!". I looked at his desk, a little confused. I couldn't actually see anything with my name on it. "What is it, darling", I tentatively ask.
"It's a mess!". He smiled, dimples turned up to high beam. "I need you to clean it".
Hmm. Spell broken. My eyebrow raised and my head tilted, just a little. Just enough for him to observe that he may just have midjudged the situation.
"Really, Alexander? You need *me* to clean it?". He sighs in relief. Obviously, I understood his dilemma. "Yes. It's very messy. Look".
Both eyebrows this time. And the death glare I inherited from my mother.
"Oh", says my little man. "Right".
Might be time for some retraining, don't you think?
Popping in from SITS to say hi!
ReplyDeleteChuckling here Mel - how cute. Maybe Alexander thinks you love to clean and he just wants to make you happy. But so cute that he read your eyebrows and death stare, I can almost see him standing there with his little brain going - ooops got that wrong. xxx
ReplyDeleteThat's funny. At least it wasn't too big of a mess.
ReplyDeleteThat is hillarious!!!
ReplyDeleteI wander where he learnt that from? The cheeky guy just assuming that mum would clean it up. Too cute.
The boy must learn early in life!!! LOL! I loved your comment on the Real World VEnus vs. Mars blog...so I had to come over and check you out! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is HILARIOUS! Kids are precious and yours sounds super wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI used to always ask my grandma to clean my desk but not because I didn't want to do it. Rather, she was a master at organizing and would find unique ways to use old containers for new purposes. However, no matter how hard I tried to convince my mom to clean for me, it never worked. She essentially gave me the same response that you provided Alexander. You must have went to the same "mom training."
ReplyDeleteI have tears.
ReplyDeleteHe's such a big boy now. And if he doesn't stop being so darn smart, he'll outsmart me real soon! :p
He's beautiful Liss, but you don't need me telling you that!
xxx
At least you get the cute version!
ReplyDeleteI get the "I'm not going to do it, it's too hard, you have to do RIGHT NOW or I am hating you Mummy" an awful lot of late :(
Very Cute!! Cheeky, but I adore his honesty! Nice Entry!
