Ok. Am prepared to beg for help.
I've posted this question twice in the Google Apps Help Forum, I have read FAQ, looked everywhere for anyone else having this problem, and I'm getting nowhere.
I purchased this domain via blogger a couple of months ago. I wanted to attach an email address to it - so melissa.mitchell@thethingsidtellyou.com or something similar.
So I sign in to Google Apps. It asks me for my email address at thethingsidtellyou.com as though I already have one. Which I don't. So I click on 'can't access my account' and it tells me to contact my domain administrator for further instructions'.
I've tried a post on Google's Message Board. I can't seem to find where to ask Blogger the question.
I'm stuck. Am prepared to hand over my password (if I 'know' you) and whatnot for help at this point. It's been forever, and I've gotten no replies at all to my queries.
I wanted to make up some business cards, but I have held off until I have an @thethingsidtellyou.com email address.
Driving.Me.Crazy!

with a bit of searching, I have the answer! go to google apps, not analytics - use the (free) one... address is www.google.com/a
ReplyDeleteI've' tried that Cate. All I get when I try to sign in is "This domain has already been registered with Google Apps. Please contact your domain administrator for instructions on using Google Apps with this domain."
ReplyDeleteHave you tried doing it through the bit on Blogger where you enter your domain name?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea but I have shared this post on Twitter. Hoping someone can come to your rescue!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could help you but I am tech clueless. I'm having a feedburner issue that I need help with lol
ReplyDeleteEven though you bought your domain name through Blogger, they act as agents for GoDaddy, so your actual domain name is registered with them. So when it says "domain administrator" - this is more than likely GoDaddy. You should probably contact them and ask them for advice. Even though your domain name is with GoDaddy, you'd probably need to set up your email address through your host - which is blogger. Sorry, I've never used blogger but I can tell you the domain administrator would be GoDaddy.
ReplyDeleteyour email address should be created/handled through your domain provider - ie blogger. I am hosted through hostgater so setting up an email addy using my domain name would be done through them for example.
ReplyDeleteNothing to do with google apps at all. :)
Hi Melissa!
ReplyDeleteYou need to set up your email address with whoever has your domain registered.
Based on a Whois lookup, while you did purchase the domain through Blogger, it's *registered* through GoDaddy. Sign into your GoDaddy account and set up your email addy that way, before going through Google Apps.
If you need any help, just send me an email:
hello at lizosaurus dot com
Cheers,
Liz :)
I had exactly the same problem - when i went to the login screen I typed cate@lifebehindthepurpledoor.com and my password, and it let me in - I must have set it up when setting up the domain, without even realising it. give it a try, you never know
ReplyDeleteit will also say something about swapping accounts if you're signed in with your blogger account
ReplyDeleteIf your domain is already registered in Google Apps, which is sounds like it is, you need to add your new email address via the Google apps control panel, not just by signing in to the mail system. The URL for the control panel looks like:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.google.com/a/cpanel/yourdomainname.com
(replace the last part as appropriate). From there you can log in with your domain admin login, IF you remember it - if not, you should be able to reset it via the secondary address you would have supplied when you registered it.
If this doesn't help, feel free to email me directly - cow (at) google.com and I'll try to help you out.
I hope youve been able to get it sorted Melissa!!
